Felix:

2005, 16.2hh, Thoroughbred. Felix is a kind and polite senior gelding with a mysterious past—his lip tattoo confirms he’s a Thoroughbred, but the details of his racing days are lost to time. He enjoys light walks under saddle and thrives with a quiet routine. Felix has lovely ground manners, gets along well in a mixed herd, and adores attention, grooming, and in-hand activities. A charming companion with pep in his step! For more information, contact 301-854-5037; Trainer@defhr.orgwww.defhr.org.

ANDY

Andy is a Registered Chestnut Morgan Gelding, he is 15h and foaled in 2006. He is Mr. Personality, he loves attention and being pampered. Due to Andy's history prior to landing with us, he is being offered as a companion only with potential. He requires an experienced trainer; he needs consistent handling and loves having a job and doing obstacles and tricks. He is UTD on farrier, dental, and shots. If you are interested in knowing more about Andy's history and are interested in meeting him, please contact us. His adoption fee is $800 but will increase with training

Elira

Elegant… eye-catching… Elira! If you’re looking to add a beautiful bay to your barn, Elira just might be the mare for you. She’s a 10 year old thoroughbred that previously competed in dressage and eventing. Due to injuries incurred before arriving at our sanctuary, and based on her participation in our training program, we believe she will be best as a trail rider with very light riding prospects. Elira is a sweet mare with lots of potential for the right adopter. If you think Elira is the horse you’ve been looking for, complete our adoption inquiry form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/18xUsJlZzlMsxP9mir40YNE2AiwYMy3qqg9EGa7awxw4

Eema’s Escape:

1995, 14.3hh, Quarter Horse. Eema’s Escape is a gentle 30-year-old palomino mare with a heart of gold and a story to match. She earned her name after being found abandoned in a state park, but her journey has led her to safety, care, and now—hopefully—to a loving retirement home. Eema is part of our Guardian Program, which means all expenses related to her care are tax-deductible. While her riding days are behind her, she still has so much to offer as a sweet and steady companion. This super senior is the definition of calm and kind. She’s perfect for beginner handlers and absolutely wonderful with kids. For more information, contact 301-854-5037Trainer@defhr.orgwww.defhr.org.

Ghost

Ghost is a 21-year-old branded mustang mare, who was pulled from Slaughter by Evanescent mustang rescue in Texas. She was quarantined in Kansas and then sent to SOFE.  She was rounded up by the BLM from the Antelope Herd Management Area in Nevada and titled in 2006. She has an old shoulder injury with scar tissue, we had our vet x-ray and biopsy it; the results were inconclusive, but we can only assume it is old trauma from either the chutes or injury from the auctions, she was cleared for saddle work. Ghost does exceptionally well with groundwork and was briefly started under saddle. She requires a patient and confident adopter that won't push her comfort level but is willing to continue her education/training. Due to her age, we have decided it is in Ghost's best interest to adopt her out as companion only. She is UTD on vaccines, dental, and farrier. Her adoption fee is $800 but will increase with training
